| Company Details: |
- The Company is the largest iron ore producer by volume in India (according to the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries) and produced 28.5 million tonnes of iron ore in Fiscal 2009.
- The Company's principal operations include its three iron ore mining complexes at Kirandul and Bacheli in the State of Chhattisgarh and Donimalai in the State of Karnataka, each of which consists of several iron ore mines.
- NMDC had embarked upon Rs.26000-crore expansion-cum-diversification program to be executed over a period of next four years. This included setting up of a 3-million tonnes per annum (tpa) steel plant in Chhattisgarh at a cost of Rs.16,000crore, two pelletisation plants at a cost of Rs.1400crore, a Rs.2000-crore beneficiation plant and opening up new mines at cost of Rs1,500crore.
- NMDC was also diversifying into mining of coal, rock phosphate, potash, lime stone, magnesite and manganese. It proposes to acquire coal mines in India and abroad.
- NMDC had recorded a profit of Rs.43.5 billion last fiscal, reflecting 34 per cent growth over 2007-08, besides cash reserves of over Rs 13bn.
